The ATO has released its quarterly SMSF statistical report for June 2015.

According to the SMSF statistical report, there are estimated to be more than 557,000 SMSFs with total assets of $590b. Both the number of funds and their combined assets have increased by roughly 6% since June 2014.

As part of the release of the new report, the June 2014 quarter estimates for assets held by SMSFs under limited recourse borrowing arrangements (LRBA) have been revised from $9.3b to $15.1b. The increase in ATO estimates can be attributed to some growth in the use of LRBAs by SMSFs and improved data collection through the new LRBA asset labels on the SMSF annual return.
